As a small business, we are filled with gratitude that so many of you choose to shop small during the holiday season. With all the hustling and bustling that comes with the holidays, we find it so tempting to shop at larger retailers that provide a "one stop shop" for everyone on your list. But, as a female-run, small-business team, we are committing to supporting other small or local businesses this holiday season.
WHY SHOP SMALL?
Shopping small is a great way to connect with members of your local community! In addition to small online shops, there are holiday art markets, small brick and mortar shops, and local artisans that provide meaningful gifts for anyone on your list.
THE NUTS AND BOLTS
Not only does shopping small make you feel good, it is good for your local economy and directly benefits your neighborhood, city, or town! When you purchase from a local business, the sales tax stays in your community which puts money towards roads and public schools. When you purchase from a small business, your money goes to create jobs, fund creativity and reinforce entrepreneurship!
SHOPPING SMALL GUIDE
Every community has a unique selection of small businesses ranging from local coffee roasters to small book stores and artisan boutiques to local plant shops. With so many options, finding the perfect gift is a fun way to explore your city! We've included a couple of ideas to get you started:
No. 1
We all know how stressful the holidays can be. Treat your friends with relaxation essentials from an artisan boutique! Bath salts, incense and natural face masks make the perfect gift! {Bonus: include some fresh eucalyptus from your local market to add a touch of greenery.}
No. 2
With the days getting shorter and the temperatures dropping, the holidays are a perfect time to slow down and cuddle up. Make a holiday basket for friends or family with a book from a local book seller, a cozy handmade throw, and a bag of your favorite locally roasted coffee or tea. {Bonus: include a deck of cards or your favorite holiday movie so the whole family can enjoy.}
No. 3
Don't forget about your furry family members! Treat them to a unique toy, a locally made biscuit, or a handmade bed from a small shop. {Bonus: pick up ingredients from your local market and make homemade pet biscuits.}
No. 4
As the year comes to a close, we love to thank the people in our lives that often get overlooked. Pick up pastries from your local bakery and attach a handwritten note thanking your mailman, teachers, or crossing guards. {Bonus: include some hand-warmers to keep them warm on their route!}
We hope you have a wonderful holiday season! Don't forget to shop small!
